As part of the 2016 edition of Designers' Saturday, Moritz Schmid conceived the poetic acoustic installation A Panorama for Kvadrat to celebrate colour and the beauty of wool in the raw industrial surroundings of the Girsberger production facility will form the scenic architectural backdrop for Moritz’ installation which is a visual as much as an acoustic experience.
The installation consisted of a oval structure floating in the middle of the space created by joining 20 costummade Kvadrat Soft Cells panels in rectangular and trapezoidal shapes, upholstered in the classic Hallingdal 65. By gently ducking their heads, visitors can enter into the structure and find themselves in an abstract panorama of colour and material.
The atmosphere was characterised acoustically by absorbed sound and by two raw-woollen threads that flutter above the visitors’ heads. With their constant, soundless movement, they draw two circles within the oval space.
